Former Black Stars captain and General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, Anthony Baffoe, believes Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz must adopt a system that best suits the players available ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars are currently preparing for the tournament with a week-long training camp in Cardiff before facing Wales in an international friendly on June 2. The team is expected to continue the next phase of preparations in the United States ahead of the Mundial.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Baffoe stressed the importance of discipline and tactical compactness, insisting Ghana can no longer rely solely on the dominance that characterised previous generations of the national team.

“We all wish the players good luck and for me the coach should have the adequate formation in regards to the players he has. I don’t think we are the Ghana like some years back that we play dominant football. I believe that we have to be compact and use the players accordingly.

According to him , when some players are played in their club positions , it will help the national team

How do we put, for instance, Antoine Semenyo who had a fantastic season in the Premier League appropriately? How do we use Jordan? I’m just mentioning names appropriately. So for me, I think we should play very, very compact because the intensity is going to be very, very high.

But once again, fully behind the coach, the technical team and the players. We are Ghanaians, we always remain Ghanaians. Sometimes we are not happy but as soon as the World Cup starts kicking off, we are 100% behind the team,” he said.

Anthony Baffoe’s comments come at a time when expectations around the Black Stars remain mixed following recent inconsistent performances, despite Ghana securing qualification for the World Cup.

With the final squad announcement approaching, attention will now turn to how Carlos Queiroz shapes his team tactically as Ghana aims to make a strong impression on football’s biggest stage.
