The uncle of Derrick Köhn, Eric Akwasi Agyei, has dismissed claims that the defender’s absence from Ghana’s national team was due to delays in switching his nationality from Germany to Ghana.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM, Agyei said the omission of the Ghana national football team hopeful from Ghana’s preliminary squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup was instead linked to influences from people connected to the Ghana Football Association. (Scroll down to watch video)
According to him, the explanation that Köhn’s nationality switch had not been completed was inaccurate. Agyei insisted his nephew had fulfilled the requirements and suggested external factors within Ghana football played a role in the defender’s exclusion from the squad.
This comes after Köhn’s brother, Michel Köhn, stated that his switch was complete.
Baba Rahman and Gideon Mensah were selected to the squad as the left full-back options as Ghana prepares to play England, Croatia, and Panama.

Slamming the decision to omit Derrick Kohn from the Black Stars, Eric Agyei shared that Ghana was bound to be unsuccessful in the upcoming World Cup.

“You think Carlos (Queiroz), who recently took over as head coach of the Black Stars, is the one taking this set of players to the World Cup? Let’s speak the truth. If someone is responsible (for Arthur Kohn’s omission), then it won’t end well for that person.”

“These shenanigans need to stop otherwise it will continue with no end in sight and Ghana won’t move forward. This World Cup, Ghana won’t be successful and it’s not because my nephew didn’t selected but it is because of corruption” he said.
🎥 🇬🇭 “We have destroyed Derrick Arthur Köhn’s future. If anyone is behind his omission, it will not go well for them. This World Cup, we will not go far. Let’s stop the hypocrisy.”
