An extensive time away from action due to injuries wasn’t enough to keep Alexander Isak out of Sweden’s squad to compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the Liverpool striker getting a spot in head coach Graham Potter’s 26 man squad.

Unlike many national team head coaches who have named their provisional squad but are yet to name a final squad, Graham Potter named his final squad with a handful of English Premier League players making the cut including Isak whose debut season with Liverpool has been filled with injuries.

At the time of writing, the 26 year old has four goals and an assist in 22 games in all competitions.

Anthony Elanga of Newcastle, Viktor Gyokeres of Arsenal and Victor Lindelof of Aston Villa were named in the squad but Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dejan Kulusevski wasn’t included in the squad as he continues to deal with a serious knee injury that has kept him out of action for a year.

At a presser in Stockholm, Sweden after the announcement, Potter addressed Isak’s inclusion by stating that,

“When you’ve had a long-term injury, it is never a straight road back; there is often one step forward and one step back. Our challenge is to get Alex [Isak] into peak form because when he is at his best, he is a world-class player.”
