Spain’s National Men’s Football Team head coach Luis De La Fuente is confident that injured key players will be ready to compete for the team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams and Mikel Merino are injured and in a serious race to recover and feature in Spain’s campaign in this year’s World Cup.

Spain are in Group H with Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde and Uruguay and will play two games in the United States of America while the clash against Uruguay takes place in Mexico.

Speaking to Europa Press, De La Fuente sounded sure about the chances of the trio playing in the World Cup as early as the opening game.

“I believe we will have Lamine, Nico and (Mikel) Merino available for the opening match and if not, they should be ready for the second or third game. We do not see it as a major problem.”

“At this stage, even small injuries become difficult because there is very little time left. Nico’s issue is less serious and we expect him back within three or four weeks” he said.

De La Fuente is expected to announce his final World Cup squad on May 25.
