Ousmane Dembele named French League Player of the Year despite playing 20 Games

Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele has been named as the winner of the 2025-2026 French Ligue 1 Player of the Year Award.

This marks the second season in a row that the Frenchman has won the award that was inaugurated in 1994 with David Ginola scooping up the inaugural prize.

Dembele won the award last season and went on to be crowned the Balon D’Or winner after leading PSG to a historic treble.

Unlike last season’s win that had Dembele play 29 league games and score 21 goals in 1,736 minutes, this season’s award win was achieved in controversial fashion as Dembele has played 20 league games and scored 10 goals in 960 minutes with two games remaining in the season. Dembele has only started nine games this season at the time of writing.

He also won the Ligue 1 Goal of the Season Award for his brilliant strike against Lille earning him a double win at the event that had Michael Olise crowned as the Best French Player Abroad. (Scroll down to watch Dembele’s goal against Lille)

The Bayern Munich star beat out competition from Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe and Manchester City’s Rayan Cherki to the award.

Dembele and PSG need a draw in their final two games of the season to be crowned French League Champions for the second season in a row.

PSG are the defending UEFA Champions League winners and have made it to the final where they take on Arsenal on May 30 with the chance to repeat as champions.
