The Blues endured a difficult season marked by major changes in the dugout, with both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior dismissed during the campaign. Interim coach Calum McFarlane was unable to secure a win in the FA Cup final.
Semenyo, who joined Manchester City from AFC Bournemouth in January 2026, has since gone on to win both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the defeat, James said Chelsea need a stable structure at the top if they are to return to winning major trophies in the future.

“I mean disappointing obviously, to lose. “No one is happy when you lose. We have lost a fair few games recently – it has been difficult. Every time we step out onto the pitch the target is to win.”

When asked about Chelsea’s needs for the future, Reece James said, “I think the key thing is stability.”
