Joseph Anang becomes first St. Patrick Athletic’s Player to make World Cup squad

For the first time in the history of the club, a player from St. Patrick Athletic Club, has made the roster of a team that will compete at the FIFA World Cup in the wake of Joseph Anang’s inclusion in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

25 year old Anang was one of three goalkeepers selected to the Black Stars squad by head coach Carlos Queiroz for this month’s tournament. (Scroll down to view full list)

Anang, Accra Hearts of Oak’s Benjamin Asare and Joseph Ati Zigi of Swiss side St. Gallen, made the 26 man squad that will play against England, Croatia and Panama at the group stage of the World Cup.

At the time of writing, St. Patrick Athletic rank third in the 10 team Irish Men’s Premier Division standings after winning nine, drawing five and losing five games respectively in 18 league outings.

In 19 league games, Anang has conceded 17 goals and kept six clean sheets while conceding nine goals and keeping three clean sheets in six UEFA Europa Conference League games.

Following the announcement of the Ghana squad that included Anang, St. Patrick shared the club’s excitement over his record making inclusion on X by stating,

“For the first time in our club’s history a player from St Patrick’s Athletic will travel to the World Cup. We’re all behind Joseph Anang and Ghana in Canada, Mexico & the USA!”
