Manager of English Premier League club Ipswich Town Kieran McKenna has officially stepped down from his role.

The shock move comes mere weeks after McKenna got Ipswich to qualify to the EPL from the EFL Championship.

McKenna’s Ipswich finished second in the league standings behind champions Coventry City to qualify automatically to the premier competition.

Despite earning a return to the elite competition, McKenna stepped down to take a break from coaching to spend time with his family. In a section of club’s announcement, McKenna stated that,

“It is with a mixture of gratitude, pride, sadness and contentment that I have decided to step down from the honour of managing this historic football club. To manage this club has been an absolute privilege.”

“After giving so much to the role over the previous five seasons, I now look forward to taking a break from management and dedicating some time to my family, who have been with me every step of my career so far. Ipswich Town will always have a special place in our hearts.”
