Head coach of Ghana’s U-20 National Men’s Football Team [Black Satellites], Maxwell Konadu, says his team gave away easy goals to Nigeria while reflecting on a loss to Ghana’s bitter rivals. (Scroll down to watch video)

The Black Satellites lost 4-2 to defending champions Nigeria in their opening game at the 2026 WAFU Zone B Under-20 Championship in Côte d’Ivoire.

Ghana trailed Nigeria 3-1 at half-time en route to the two-goal deficit loss ahead of scheduled Group B clashes against Burkina Faso and Togo.

Reflecting on the loss, Maxwell Konadu was unhappy about his team’s defensive output, stating,

“I think it was quite a difficult game, we planned to start with a high press to see how our opponents would handle it and in the process, we gave away some cheap goals that I think could have been avoided.”

“They-Nigeria- did well. I think they played better than we did. We have accepted that. We were organized but giving away two cheap goals, I don’t think we can make headway with that.”
