Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has spoken publicly about his dismissal for the first time since being relieved of his duties in March 2026.
Addo was sacked after a run of defeats to South Korea, Japan, Germany, and Austria, bringing an end to his second spell in charge of Ghana’s national team.
Despite leading the Black Stars to qualification for the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups, his tenure was overshadowed by Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking in an interview with German outlet 11 Freunde, the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach reflected on the circumstances surrounding his departure and shared his thoughts on the events that followed his dismissal.
“That naturally made me happy. I received calls I think in total, I counted over 50 WhatsApp messages because even old players from 2022 got in touch.
“Even players who weren’t invited got in touch.”
“After I was fired, I received many messages very long messages too…I received the messages. It made very happy and that for me was the best validation” Otto Addo said.
