Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah says a “new chapter begins” after completing his move to German Bundesliga side FC Köln, sharing his excitement in his first message since the transfer was confirmed. He will wear the number 14 jersey at his new club.
The Black Stars player, who turns 28 later this month, joined the club on a two-year deal after leaving French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre after a four-year run with the club.
His move comes on the back of a brilliant campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup that had Ghana eliminated at the round of 32 stage after losing 1-0 to Colombia.
Playing in this year’s World Cup marked the second time Mensah had competed in football’s biggest competition. He featured in all four Ghana games and excelled in Carlos Queiroz’s system.
Following the official announcement of his deal, the former Bordeaux player wrote on his X page, stating,

“New Chapter Begins. Ready To Give Everything For This Shirt.”

FC Köln finished 14th in the 18-team league standings last season.
