Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has admitted that the club still need to strengthen their squad despite making significant moves in the transfer market.

The Spaniard says Liverpool are aware of the need to bring in more players as they prepare for the 2026/27 campaign, with the club already completing deals for defenders Jérémy Jacquet and Víctor Muñoz.

Liverpool signed Jacquet from Stade Rennais FC for £60 million and Muñoz from CA Osasuna for £34.5 million as part of their squad rebuilding plans.

The club were also heavily active in the previous transfer window, completing major deals for players including Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Miloš Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni and Giorgi Mamardashvili during the 2025/26 season.

However, speaking to the media ahead of the new campaign, Iraola revealed that Liverpool are still looking to add more quality to the squad.

“Obviously, we have signed two players already but we need more players. We know this. The club is working on this.”

“Me, as a coach, selfishly, we want the players here from day one to train from pre-season.”

“But we know football doesn’t work like this. The club is working hard to get those signings.”

Iraola, who replaced Arne Slot as Liverpool boss, believes having new arrivals early would help preparations, but understands the challenges of the transfer market.

The Liverpool manager is now focused on building a squad capable of competing across multiple competitions as he begins his tenure at Anfield.
