FIFA has strongly denied allegations of a sexual relationship involving President Gianni Infantino and a woman during his time as UEFA General Secretary.
A FIFA spokesperson rejected the claims following a report by British newspaper The Telegraph, which alleged that Infantino had an affair with the woman while serving at UEFA.
The report also claimed that UEFA paid the woman a severance package, which helped fund her MBA studies at a business school.
FIFA has dismissed the allegations as the latest development in the growing tension between Infantino and UEFA, following his controversial proposal to sell a stake in FIFA to private investors led by the brother of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
The planned sale has been withdrawn after significant resistance. In response to the sexual allegations, a FIFA spokesperson denied the allegations by telling The Telegraph.
“FIFA president Gianni Infantino strongly denies these allegations, and they are categorically untrue. Any insinuation of inappropriate conduct or violation of statutes or regulations is defamatory.”
“No employee at Uefa and Fifa has ever raised a complaint regarding Mr Infantino’s behaviour because there never was an incident where he was involved.”
