FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has described his move to Ajax as the ideal opportunity after joining the Dutch club on a season-long loan.
The German goalkeeper made the comments during his official unveiling, marking the second consecutive season he will spend away from Barcelona after finishing the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Spanish La Liga side Girona.
Ter Stegen, who has struggled with fitness and form in recent seasons, fell out of favour at Barcelona despite enjoying a successful spell at the club, which included winning the UEFA Champions League. He said the move to Ajax was the right choice for the next stage of his career.
“When I first spoke with Jordi Cruyff-Ajax Technical Director-, I immediately felt it was the ideal choice. I also know the coach-former Girona trainer Michel Sanchez- and Daley Blind. I had the chance to talk to them about the project and they were convincing.”
“We want to bring Ajax back to the top. It is a prestigious club with a glorious history and distinguished international standing. I am confident it will be a successful season” Ter Stegen said.
