The minifootball association of Ghana officially introduced itself to Ghana’s sports media and key stakeholders at a press briefing on the 27th August 2026 at information services department press conference hall in Adabraka.

The event brought together personalities from Ghana’s sporting community, including national sports authority director-general Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and handball association president Nii Lante Bannerman.

At the heart of the event was outlining the associations plans to develop the game and create more opportunities for players.

Speaking after the presser president of the minifootball association of Ghana Bernard Paakow Ekumah said the association has been building on a quiet but was just looking for the right opportunity to showcase it’s achievements

“Somewhere last year where we had our best performance at the African Minifootball Cup in Libya, we came with four trophies and for five games that we played we had man of the match for all the four games and we wanted to showcase that one to the president of the republic as well as the minister of sports and everybody in the sporting fraternity but we had sad news in Ghana as six of our men fell in the helicopter crash so we kept it low and as Pan-Africanists and people who are socially balanced it is until the one year anniversary that we decided to come out”

The association also used the occasion to announce Ghana’s upcoming participation in international minifootball competitions.

President Bernard Paakow Ekumah set clear targets for improving the country’s already impressive ranking on the continental level

“Concerning targets the men’s team Ghana Sparks have done well all these years we haven’t brought in any cup, but yet we’ve done so well.

The ladies are now going to the Minifootball African Women’s Nations Cup, our target is that our ranking in Africa, which is fifth out of 47 countries, we want to go to the very top.”

The minifootball african women’s nations cup is scheduled to take place in September 2026.
