President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Ibrahim Gusau has officially resigned from his role amid a flurry of similar resignations of high profile personalities in Nigerian football.

The NFF’s official X page announced the resignation of the President with the statement also announcing the resignation of members of the NFF Executive Committee and the General Secretary. (Scroll down to view tweet)

This development comes on the back of a major downturn in performance from Nigeria’s National Football Teams.

For the National Men’s Team, the Super Eagles, Nigeria failed to qualify to the 2026 FIFA World Cup marking the third straight edition of the competition that Nigeria has missed out on competing in.

On the female side-Super Falcons-, Nigeria failed to defend its Women’s AFCON title after crashing out of the 2026 edition at the quarterfinals stage.

Beyond failure to win the Women’s AFCON, Nigeria was eliminated from 2027 Women’s World Cup qualification contention after losing 2-1 to South Africa. Gusau served as NFF President since September 30, 2022.
