Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) head coach Luis Enrique says he does not expect a top-level UEFA Super Cup when his side face Aston Villa on Wednesday, August 12 at 19:00 GMT.
The match at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg will pit the reigning Champions League winners against the Europa League champions. Enrique believes the short turnaround for several of his players could affect the quality of the game.
PSG had 15 players involved at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including five French players who helped France finish fourth. Midfielder Fabián Ruiz was also part of Spain’s squad that won the tournament.
“We are pleased to be here because it means we did a good job last season, but in terms of preparation it is very difficult to manage.”
“The internationals have only just come back, the French, Spanish and Moroccans came back on Monday, the Brazilians and Portuguese on the third, one week ago. It is a situation generated by the schedule.”
“In terms of a top-level game tomorrow, it will be difficult to see that. Some of our players have barely trained but the ones who have will play tomorrow. In terms of preparation, this is not how it should be” he said in a pre-game interview.
