Former US Open champion Naomi Osaka says she is not sad about being eliminated from the 2026 US Open, but is disappointed that she failed to achieve a personal goal.

Osaka made the comments after losing 6-1, 6-4 to Elena Rybakina in the round of 16, ending her run at the tournament.

Rybakina, the 2026 Australian Open champion, is guaranteed to rise to world number one in the WTA Rankings after her victory over Osaka.

Despite the defeat, Osaka said she was pleased with how she handled the loss, especially compared with previous years.

“I think I’m happy I’m taking losses differently. I’m trying to learn from them a lot more.”

“Today if I was to say I’m sad, I was sad that I couldn’t push off on my foot. I’m sad I couldn’t do what I set out to do.”

“I’m honestly not disappointed now. It’s a very strange feeling. Maybe I’m just getting older, but I don’t feel sad” Osaka said.
