Ghana defender Alexander Djiku has been ruled out of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia after failing to recover from an injury suffered against Côte d’Ivoire on September 24.
Djiku was forced off during Ghana’s 2-0 defeat to the Elephants in Bouaké on Thursday and had hoped to recover in time for the Group C clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.
However, the 32-year-old is now unavailable, leaving Carlos Queiroz with another defensive concern. Jonas Adjetey is among the options to partner Ghana’s remaining centre backs.
Djiku had only recently returned to the Black Stars after missing the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign due to fitness problems.
His absence adds to a growing list of players unavailable to Queiroz, including Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey, Baba Rahman and Prince Kwabena Adu.
The Black Stars are looking to recover from their opening 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire and secure their first points of the qualifying campaign against The Gambia. The Scorpions opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Somalia and arrive in Accra with three points.
