Alexander Djiku has returned to the Black Stars squad after recovering from injury, providing a timely boost to Ghana’s defence ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Spartak Moscow defender was included in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad for Ghana’s upcoming qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
Djiku missed Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign after suffering a hamstring injury during the Russian Cup final.
The experienced centre-back has since completed his recovery and returned to regular club football, featuring in consecutive 90-minute matches for Spartak Moscow.
His return comes at a time when Ghana are dealing with injuries to several defenders, including Jonas Adjetey and Mohammed Salisu.
Djiku’s experience and familiarity with the Black Stars setup could therefore provide added stability as Queiroz begins reshaping his defensive options for the new AFCON qualifying campaign.
The 31-year-old returns to the national team alongside Tottenham midfielder Mohammed Kudus, who was also unavailable during Ghana’s World Cup campaign because of injury.
