AS Roma Sporting Director Tony D’Amico has stated that Chelsea didn’t send an official bid to sign midfielder Manu Kone.
D’Amico stated this in a press briefing following the closure of the main football transfer window on Tuesday, September 1.
Roma signed veteran midfielder Marten de Roon from Atalanta, striker Santiago Castro from Bologna, Argentine defender Nahuel Molina from Atletico Madrid and attacking midfielder Rodrigo Mora from FC Porto during the transfer window.
However, French midfielder Manu Kone was reported as a major transfer target for a handful of English Premier League clubs including Chelsea but D’Amico flat out denied that the London based side made an official bid for Kone.
“There was an inquiry and some preliminary contact with Chelsea on the final day of the transfer window.”
“No official offers arrived that would allow us to approach the player. Something was imagined that simply didn’t happen.”
“There was no official offer. The final day of the transfer window got everyone a little worked up” D’Amico said.
