Sporting Director of AS Monaco, Thiago Scuro, has shed light on the controversial turn of events that led to the collapse of deals involving Lamine Camara and Folarin Balogun.

Both players were set to join English Premier League sides in the final minutes of Europe’s main football transfer window that concluded on Tuesday, September 1.

Monaco’s Senegal midfielder Camara was poised to join Chelsea as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez who moved to Manchester City for a record 125 million pounds. Monaco however, maintained that Camara had agreed to stay with the club.

American forward Balogun was set to join Everton from Monaco as a replacement for Beto who left the Toffees for Italian Serie A side Fiorentina.

However, following the collapse of both moves, Monaco have come under intense scrutiny over their conduct but Scuro argued otherwise especially as Balogun changed his mind about joining Everton.

“We had to respect his-Balogun- decision. We found solutions, challenged the medical assessment and worked through the issues.I don’t want to create a war with Chelsea or Everton”.

“My role is to protect Monaco and act in the club’s best interests. That’s what I’ve done since I arrived. It’s not about being loved by people outside the club. It’s about doing what Monaco needs”.
