Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has stated that transfer reports that linked him with a move to FC Barcelona were true.
He said this in an interview with Sky Italia following the closure of the main football transfer window on Tuesday, September 1.
Barcelona were in the market for a forward following the collapse of their planned move for Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.
However, Atletico remained adamant to sell Alvarez to Barcelona leading the reigning Spanish La Liga champions to sign Gabriel Jesus on a three year contract worth 10 million euros with four million euros in add-ons.
Addressing the media, 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Martinez confirmed that the reports were true that Barcelona was in line to sign him.
“The rumors that were circulating were true but in the end, I wanted to stay here with my teammates and these magnificent fans. When offers or calls come from such big clubs, they are always welcome-they are gratifying because it is a very significant thing.”
