Ghana’s Black Queens began their 2028 CAF Women’s Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament campaign with a 3-0 win over Mauritius in the first leg of the second round at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex.

It was the Black Queens’ first game of the qualifiers, with Margaret Agyapomaa making her competitive debut for Ghana.

Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren also handed starts to experienced players including Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, Benedicta Simon, Comfort Yeboah, Evelyn Badu and Alice Kusi.

The Black Queens took the lead in the 15th minute through Abigail Kofi Kim.

Stella Nyamekye provided the assist with a low cross from the right, which Kofi Kim converted to put Ghana 1-0 ahead.

Mauritius struggled to cope with Ghana’s pressure as the Black Queens continued to control the game.

Benedicta Simon added a third before the break with a curling finish, assisted by Comfort Yeboah, to give Ghana a 3-0 lead at half-time.

The Black Queens eased off in the second half but continued to dominate possession.

Kim Lars Björkegren made changes after the break, introducing Mukarama Abdullai in the 73rd minute, while Jennifer Bonsu was also brought on.

Mauritius came close to pulling one back late on when Princella Adubea struck the woodwork in the 84th minute.

Ghana held on for the 3-0 win and will take a comfortable advantage into the second leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, October 13.

The winner of the tie will advance to the third qualifying round, where they will face either Uganda or Zambia. Uganda currently lead that tie after a 2-1 win over Zambia in the first leg.

The 3-0 victory over Mauritius also marked the Black Queens’ first competitive game scoring at least three goals since October 26, 2025, when Ghana beat Egypt 3-0 in the first leg of the 2026 WAFCON qualifying playoff.
