Citi Sports can confirm that former Black Stars defender Anthony Baffoe has declined to serve on the five-member committee set up by Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams to find Ghana’s next head coach.
Baffoe was named alongside former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, FIFA high performance specialist Faisal Chibsah and football administrator Agbesi Dzakpasu on the committee, chaired by former Ghana Football Association Vice President Fred Pappoe.
The committee was announced after a meeting between the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the GFA on Friday, October 2, following Carlos Queiroz’s resignation as Black Stars head coach.
It has been tasked with identifying, assessing and recommending a suitable coach, with a report due by Friday, October 9.
However, Citi Sports understands that Baffoe had not accepted the appointment before the committee was announced.
Sources say Baffoe was not properly consulted before his name was included and has since communicated his decision not to serve.
Baffoe remains available to support Ghana in other capacities but does not want to be involved in the current coaching search.
His concerns are understood to relate to the wider approach to football development, rather than a lack of support for the Black Stars or Ghanaian football.
Mr. Baffoe’s decision comes as the Ministry and GFA work to appoint a new coach following Queiroz’s departure.
Ghana lost their opening two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, falling 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia. The Black Stars are scheduled to face Somalia in their next AFCON qualifier in November.
