Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day suspension and fined by the Portuguese Football Federation following his decision to leave Portugal’s camp ahead of a UEFA Nations League fixture against Denmark.
The Portuguese Football Federation announced the sanctions on Monday, October 19, punishing the forward for his unauthorised departure from the national team camp.
Ronaldo reportedly expressed frustration with head coach Jorge Jesus over his playing time before leaving the camp. He later apologised for his actions in a lengthy statement.
The suspension could rule the forward out of Portugal’s upcoming Nations League fixtures against Denmark and Wales in November, depending on the applicable disciplinary arrangements.
In addition to the suspension, Ronaldo was fined $285.83, equivalent to approximately GH¢3,337.37 at the time of writing.

According to the Portuguese Football Federation, Ronaldo breached Article 160(1) of its disciplinary regulations. However, the federation did not clarify whether the 30-day suspension takes effect from October 19 or whether the period of his provisional suspension, announced on October 10, will count towards the ban.

Ronaldo has won the 2016 European Championship and two UEFA Nations League titles with Portugal.
