Accra Hearts of Oak head coach Nebojša Kapor says Ghana football is facing serious challenges with the availability of quality playing pitches, expressing hope that the club will eventually secure a permanent home stadium.
Hearts returned to winning ways in the Ghana Premier League with a narrow 1-0 victory over newly promoted Port City at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday, October 11.
Speaking after the game, Kapor acknowledged that his team still needed to improve but said the state of playing surfaces remained a wider concern for Ghana football.
“This is not our stadium; it’s a national stadium. This is not just our home ground; it’s for all Ghanaians. It’s true that it’s not our stadium. We have to improve our team, and Ghana football already has a serious problem with pitches. I have a lot of obligations, and this is not part of them,” he told the media.
The win lifted Hearts to second place in the league standings, three points behind leaders Medeama.
Port City suffered their second defeat of the campaign and dropped to fourth place after a promising start to their debut top-flight season.
Hearts will next travel to Tema to face Vision FC, while Port City prepares to host Dreams FC.
