France head coach Zinedine Zidane says he was pleased with his team’s performance despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Italy in the UEFA Nations League on Friday, October 2.
The match marked Zidane’s return to the Stade de France and his third game in charge of the French national team.
France went into the game after wins over Türkiye and Belgium and were looking to maintain their winning start under Zidane.
Michael Olise put France ahead, but Alessandro Bastoni equalised for Italy to deny Zidane a win in his return to the Stade de France.
“It was magnificent. We would have liked to win for our fans…but I was obviously really touched and delighted to be back at the Stade de France.”

“I am happy with the performance albeit not with the result. We had chances to score a second goal and we didn’t do it but I am really proud of my players” Zidane said.

France take on Belgium next on Monday, October 5.
