Football legend Dwight Yorke has expressed interest in becoming the next head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.
Yorke confirmed his interest in an interview with UK-based newspaper The Guardian as Ghana searches for a successor to Carlos Queiroz.
The former Manchester United striker moved into coaching after retiring from football. He has managed Australian club Macarthur FC, winning the 2022 Australia Cup, and also coached the Trinidad and Tobago national team.
Yorke rose to prominence during his playing career at Manchester United, helping the club win the UEFA Champions League in 1999. His interest adds another name to the search for a new Black Stars coach, with the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation seeking a successor to Queiroz.
“It’s a job I’d be interested in, given Ghana’s history and the players available” Yorke said and added that,

“You look at the squad and your eyes open even wider. The conversation [I had with an agent regarding my interest in coaching the Black Stars] started there and then reached the media before I really knew it.”

“The talent is there. Build the culture and get the players to buy in and the football will follow.”
