Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez has apologised for publicly criticising the club’s leadership and team after their defeat to Atlético Madrid, following talks with manager Michael Carrick and club directors.
The Argentine confirmed he met with the club’s leadership and manager on Thursday, October 15, describing the discussions as positive and an opportunity to address the fallout from his comments.
“Today I met with the club’s leadership and the manager. It was a very positive conversation, where we were able to exchange views and speak openly about what happened after the game,” Martínez said.

The 28-year-old criticised the club’s board on Tuesday following the 2-0 defeat, sparking questions about tensions within Manchester United.
However, he admitted that frustration had influenced his remarks and that he had chosen the wrong time and place to express his feelings.
“The frustration of the defeat led me to express how I felt at a time and place that perhaps were not the right ones, and for that I want to apologise,” he added.

Martínez stressed that unity was essential to the club’s success and acknowledged that his comments had not helped.
“Our club is at its best when we are all united, and I recognise that my words in that moment did not help with that,” he said.
He also defended the commitment of those working at Manchester United, saying everyone was striving to restore the club to success.

“I know that every single person at Manchester United is doing everything possible to achieve our shared ambition: bringing the success that this club and its supporters deserve,” he said.
Martínez said the matter had been put behind them, with the team now focused on results.
“With this situation now behind us, we are fully focused on winning together,” he added.
