Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso was ready to move on quickly from his team’s elimination from the Carabao Cup after suffering a 6-5 loss to Liverpool in a penalty shootout.
In a round of 16 game played at Anfield that ended 1-1 at the end of regulation, Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana skied his penalty attempt to give Liverpool the win.
Liverpool have since been drawn to play against AFC Bournemouth in the quarterfinals in mid-December; defending champions Manchester City got drawn against Bradford City. (Click highlighted text to view full fixtures)
“Penalties mean it is open to anything. The game was really close for both sides. This is football. It is part of our job.”

“We were showing a good level and this is what it takes to come to these stadiums. The Premier League is the main focus” Alonso said to Sky Sports after the game.

Chelsea rank fifth in the English Premier League and take on struggling Manchester United on Saturday, October 31. The Blues head into the game on the back of losing 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur.
