Spintex Knights head coach Selorm Thomas believes his team can improve on its performance in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) preliminary phase despite qualifying for the Elite 16 unbeaten.
Thomas said this in an interview with FIBA after guiding the Ghanaian side to the Elite 16 for the second consecutive year. The Knights sealed qualification with a 92-71 win over Benin’s Energie Basketball Club, finishing top of Group B in the Division West phase with three wins from three games.
They had earlier beaten Liberia’s NPA Pythons 88-66 and Guinea’s Nabaya Sofas 96-90. With the Elite 16 set for November 10-15 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, Thomas is confident the team can deliver a stronger performance in the next round.
“We are going home to recalibrate and adjust before continuing our work in Abidjan. We can still improve our ball handling and get better. We can’t afford to make the same mistakes in the Elite 16 that we made here.”
“The main asset of the team is that these guys are selfless, as evidenced by the 27 assists in today’s game” Thomas said.
