The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has invited the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to a meeting following the mutual termination of Carlos Queiroz’s contract and the Black Stars’ poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The meeting, which is scheduled for today, October 2, comes after Ghana suffered consecutive defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, leaving the Black Stars without a point from their opening two Group C matches.
The GFA and Queiroz mutually terminated his contract on Thursday, October 1, a day after the association came under intense criticism following Ghana’s 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia.
The latest setback has intensified calls for changes to the administration of Ghana football, including calls for the dissolution of the GFA and for President Kurt Okraku to resign.
The meeting with the Sports Minister is expected to address the state of the Black Stars and wider challenges facing Ghana football, beyond the departure of the head coach.
Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports, Ernest Henry Norgbey, has argued that changing coaches will not solve the underlying problems. He is calling for reforms to the GFA’s constitution and governance system.
The Black Stars will next face Somalia in a double-header in October as they seek to revive their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
