Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior has admitted that jeers from supporters affect him, saying he would prefer their backing as he battles to rediscover his best form.
Speaking to the press after Real Madrid’s dramatic 4-3 comeback victory over AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, the Brazilian acknowledged the fans’ right to express their dissatisfaction but insisted that the criticism does little to help his performances.
“The whistles from the fans do not help me. I’d rather they supported me, but I understand, they pay for their tickets,” he said.
The 26-year-old also admitted that he was frustrated with his recent displays, explaining that his anger was directed more at himself than concern over his form.
“I am not worried, but I am angry at myself for not giving my best version,” he added.
Vinícius has struggled to reach his usual standards this season, with his goal tally below expectations as he works to regain his confidence in front of goal. Despite the criticism, the Brazilian said he remains determined to turn things around and return to his best form.
