Ghana captain Jordan Ayew scored his first goal for Sheffield United, but the Blades suffered a 2-1 defeat to Charlton Athletic in the Championship on Saturday.
Ayew headed home United’s equaliser after Millenic Alli had given Charlton an early lead at The Valley in the 12th minute.
However, Matty Godden struck with 11 minutes remaining to restore the hosts’ advantage and secure all three points for Charlton.
The victory ended the Addicks’ 11-game winless run in the league and marked their first Championship win since August 29. Godden’s late effort was also his second goal of the season.

The result lifted Charlton to 19th place, seven points clear of the relegation zone, while Sheffield United saw their four-match unbeaten run come to an end.
Ayew was recalled to the starting line-up following the midweek victory over Preston North End, with Liam Kitching and Kalvin Phillips also returning to the side. Mark McGuinness, Jairo Riedewald and Tom Cannon dropped to the bench.
Although the defeat was a setback for the Blades’ efforts to climb the Championship table, Ayew will take encouragement from opening his scoring account for the club.
The Ghana international will now look to build on that milestone as Sheffield United seek greater consistency in their campaign.
