Referee Samuel Sukah has been handed an eight match ban by the GFA Executive Committee after they approved the Match Review Panel’s verdict on the referee’s conduct in a Ghana Premier League game between Ebusua Dwarfs and Berekum Chelsea.

Sukah was banned for awarding a controversial penalty in favour of Dwarfs against Chelsea on match day one, which went on to decide the game.

The Berekum Chelsea players, after the incident, threatened to boycott the game which caused a temporary delay on proceedings.

Sukah along with the Match Commissioner on the day, C.W. Okai, have been punished for the incident.

The GFA statement reads:

The GFA Executive Committee has approved the Match Review Panel’s Eight (8) official matches suspension handed to Referee Samuel Sukah.

After a careful review of the Ghana Premier League match between Ebusua Dwarfs & Berekum Chelsea played in Cape Coast, Ref Sukah was deemed to have given a bad penalty against Berekum Chelsea.

Ref Sukah’s defense at the Committee’s meeting was unsuccessful.

The GFA EXCO has also approved the Match Review Panel’s Eight (8) official matches suspension of Match Commissioner Mr. C.W. Okai in relation to the Ghana Premier League match between Ebusua Dwarfs & Berekum Chelsea

As the Match Commissioner for the match, Mr. Okai failed in his official duties to correctly capture the incident of Referee Samuel Sukah’s decision to award a bad penalty against Berekum Chelsea.

The suspension takes effect from Monday April 9, 2018.

Sukah has previously been at the center of controversy, when he famously awarded Hearts of Oak a dodgy penalty against rivals Asante Kotoko during last season’s league game at the Accra Sports Stadium.
