JUST IN: Ashantigold sack CK Akonnor

Ghana Premier League side, Ashantigold, have parted ways with head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor.

Akonnor’s sack comes three days after he was suspended for failing to turn up for the club’s training last Thursday and Friday.

The club communicated the decision with a press release on Friday where they stated that their former player’s sacking was in the “best interest of the club.”

Following his suspension on Tuesday, Akonnor told Citi Sports his absence from training for the said two days was as a result of family engagements and not the wide reports that he had abandoned his coaching duties in favor of TV punditry.

Akonnor took charge of the club half way into the 2017 season and guided them to survive relegation.

He leaves the Miners with the club second on the table with the 2018 Ghana Premier League season half way in.

Technical Director, John Christensen, will take charge of the first team duties until a substantive head coach is appointed.
