Manchester City 3-0 Wolves: Gabriel Jesus double cuts Liverpool’s lead at top of Premier League

Gabriel Jesus scored twice as Manchester City kept the pressure on Liverpool in the Premier League title race with a straightforward victory over ten-man Wolves.

The Brazilian starred in the absence of Sergio Aguero with two first-half goals, rounding off a classic City move before calmly slotting home from the penalty spot.

And Kevin De Bruyne came off the bench to help add a third with a wicked cross which was inadvertently turned in by Wolves captain Conor Coady.

The victory takes City to within four points of league-leaders Liverpool, and the ease of the victory will give Jurgen Klopp plenty to fear, especially with Aguero and De Bruyne now fit.

Wolves were given a mountain to climb when they went a goal and a man down inside the opening 20 minutes and, in truth, they were never really in the game.

Ten minutes of intense City pressure were rewarded when Aymeric Laporte picked a superb through ball to Leroy Sane, whose inch-perfect cross was tapped in by Jesus.

Willy Boly then flew into a strong challenge on Bernardo Silva and, despite winning the ball, was shown a straight red card with only 19 minutes played.

Another rash tackle from a Wolves defender resulted in a penalty when Ryan Bennett brought Raheem Sterling down in the box.

And Jesus, taking spot-kick responsibilities with Aguero on the bench, sent Rui Patricio the wrong way to all-but end the game before half-time.

City were so comfortable in the second-half that Pep Guardiola decided to give Aguero and De Brune a run-out, and the latter grabbed an assist with a cross that was almost impossible to defend.

Coady unwittingly flicked the in-swinging delivery into the bottom corner with ten minutes remaining to round-off comfortable victory for the champions.
