GFA Elections: CAS seeks GFA’s response on Palmer’s injunction request

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has written to the Ghana Football Association seeking a response on whether they agree to Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer’s request for provisional and/or conservatory measures while his substantive appeal before the Swiss court is heard.

Palmer has filed an appeal at CAS over his disqualification from contesting in the upcoming GFA elections and asked the sports court to postpone the election only in relation to the presidency because it would cause Palmer irreparable harm even if he wins his appeal.

CAS has now asked the GFA to indicate by Monday 21 October 2019 at 10:00am Swiss time (8 am in Ghana), whether or not they agree to Palmer’s request.

Palmer has also requested expedited action on the matter, seeking for his appeal to be determined at a fast track hearing, rather than having to wait for CAS’s pre-determined dates.

CAS also wants the GFA to indicate within two days (2 days) whether or not they agree to Palmer’s request for expedited hearing.

CAS states that if the GFA objects to the request or fails to respond within the stipulated deadline, no expedited hearing will be conducted and the CAS pre-determined dates for hearing the matter will be followed through.

Palmer has also requested that the President of the CAS Appeals Arbitration Division decide on the number of arbitrators and appoint them herself. CAS has asked the GFA to respond within 10 days whether they agree with the request.

Palmer earlier had a request for audience with the GFA turned down, before he invoked Article R7 of the CAS Code, moving for a quick arbitration.

The GFA elections are slated for 25 October 2019 in Accra.
