VIDEO: Stephen Appiah names his greatest Black Stars team

Former Ghana captaain, Stephen Appiah, has picked Ghana’s AFCON 1992 team as his greatest ever Black Stars team.

Appiah, 39, led Ghana to a first ever world cup appearance in 2006, playing some fantastic football along the way with the likes of Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, John Mensah and the rest writing their names into the history books.

Ghana has also produced 4 different AFCON winning teams in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982 while the 2010 squad made it all the way to a first world cup quarter final.

Despite the array of great Ghana teams, some of which Appiah, has played in, the former Juventus creative midfielder believes the quality of the 1992 squad that lost the AFCON final to Cote D’Ivoire was phenomenal.

“I didn’t have the chance to watch the 1962, or 1982 team but I saw the 1992 team,” he said in an instagram chat with Betway.

“Edward Ansah was our goalkeeper, Nii Darko Ankrah was number 2, our former coach Akwasi Appiah was number 3, Frimpong Manso and Emmanuel Armah, Tony Baffoe, Prince Polley, Stanley Aborah, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Ali Ibrahim, Tony Yeboah, Abedi Pele.

“I mean, when were growing up, these were the players that we were watching, these were the players that we wanted to be like and it was amazing watching them in the 1992 African Cup.

“So for me, it’s the ’92 squad,” Appiah concluded.

It was an amazing chat with the former Captain of the Black Stars, Stephen “Tornado” Appiah yesterday 🔥
