Founder of Africa Women’s Sport Summit, Juliet Bawuah has outlined accomplishments chalked in just three years of the event’s existence.

Speaking during the opening of the 2022 edition of the summit at the Accra International Conference Center on Wednesday, July 27, she outlined how impactful the event has been in its short existence.

“The testimonies are endless. To date, we keep getting them from people who have directly been impacted,” Bawuah said.

“We are happy to note that more young women say to us that they have decided to take their place in Sports Journalism after [attending the debut edition in 2019.]”

Some of the highlights she mentioned include mentoring over 5,000 young and established African women in sports through the summit’s special speaker sessions and Bootcamp, one of which was led by the Secretary General of FIFA, Madam Fatma Samoura in 2020, and aiding over a dozen African women in sports through referral opportunities with partner organizations.

Bawuah shared that the summit providing sporting equipment to the Assamensudu Bayern Munich, a lower-tier football club in the Western Region, owned and coached by Madam Patience Aggrey. With little to no support, she is known for having developed talents on her own for over two decades.

She also disclosed that the event is expected to grow into a week-long festival, and a hope to institute an online school dedicated to various interests from sports leadership, business, sports medicine, and journalism.

The theme for this year’s edition was ‘Be The Change” to encourage building stronger institutions, and a call for stakeholders to be positive and progressive change agents in their respective fields.

The summit was hosted by Miriam Osei Agyemang.

The Africa Women’s Sports Summit seeks to present a platform for mentorship, training and greater female inclusion in the African sports scene.

Started in 2019 by Ghanaian Sportscaster Juliet Bawuah, it is an enabler of initiatives that go a long way to help African women in sports attain their personal, community and career goals.

The special Guest for the 2022 event was Her Excellency Hajia Samira Bawumia, Second Lady of The Republic of Ghana.

Speakers were Barbara Gonzalez, CEO, Simba Sport Club, Tanzania, Thato Moeng, SuperSport, South Africa and Naa Odofoley Nortey, Private Legal Practitioner and CAF Match Commissioner.

The Africa Women’s Sports Summit is a Sportted Limited event.
