Ghana league halt will affect our budget – Kotoku Royals

Kotoku Royals FC Head of Communications Okatakyie Afrifa is lamenting the halt of the betPawa Ghana Premier League on his club’s finances.

The 2022-2023 season went through three rounds but the league had to be halted due to a court injunction placed by a Ghanaian Court after being served by Ashanti Gold Sporting Club over alleged human rights breaches on the part of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Speaking exclusively to CITI Sports, the Communications Director highlighted the logistical challenges Kotoku deals with as the Akim Oda based team has adopted the Cape Coast Stadium as its home ground due to ongoing renovation works at the Akim Oda Sports Stadium.

“It’s quite unfortunate that the league is on hold as at now…it really worries us a lot. Kotoku has adopted Cape Coast Sports Stadium that is where we are playing our home matches and an entire team of Kotoku Royals is still in Cape Coast. In this situation, it cost us a lot.”

“The FA told us the league will go on break after we have played Week Number 12 (games) and we have budgeted everything to that and now the league is no more going on…It’s quite unfortunate the league is on hold as at now” he stated.

Three games into its debut campaign in the Ghanaian top flight, Kotoku Royals have registered a goalless draw with Nsoatreman, a 1-0 win over Accra Lions and a 0-1 loss to Dreams FC.
