Former Sunderland and Al Ain forward Asamoah Gyan has inferred he isn’t given enough respect by Ghanaian fans for his football exploits.

He inferred this in reaction to Brazilian legend Kaka’s statement regarding the treatment of fellow Brazilian great Ronaldo Nazario de Lima by Brazilian football fans.

AC Milan great Kaka stated in an interview with BeIN Sport, “In Brazil, he’s just a fat man walking down the street…The way he is respected in Brazil and abroad is different, I see more respect for him outside the country”.

Reacting to the statement on his Twitter page, former Rennes Striker Gyan wrote, “Even my idol? Hmmmmm I see. Understandable”.

Gyan has received a ton of flack in his career especially in his time competing for Ghana’s national men’s football team, the Black Stars for over a decade.

Gyan attracted the harshest criticism for missing a last minute penalty kick against Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup that cost Ghana a historic place in the semifinals.

He missed a penalty in the 2012 AFCON semifinals against Zambia. Ronaldo on the other hand, won the 2002 World Cup, won the FIFA Best Player Award three times and is regarded as one of the greatest footballers ever.
