Central African Republic (CAR) head coach Raoul Savoy has likened his team’s prospective qualification to the CAF African Cup of Nations (AFCON) as meeting Jesus Christ for the first time.

He said this in a pregame interview as the Wild Beasts of CAR take on Ghana’s Black Stars on Thursday, September 7 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi in a crucial game.

Ghana needs a win or a draw to progress to the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire while CAR needs to win the match to qualify to the championship. CAR is yet to compete at the continental competition.

Speaking on his team’s prospective qualification to the AFCON, Savoy delivered an anecdote on what qualification would mean for the Central African nation.

Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton

“I know exactly what my players can do tomorrow. I have full respect for Ghana as a football nation, as a team but football is the most lovely game in the world because every time, every day you have surprises.

Maybe for you guys it’s like going to the supermarket you qualify and that’s it. For us, it’s not like that it’s like maybe when you cross Jesus (Christ) for the first time. It’s not the same.”

Ghana has competed at every AFCON tourney since missing out the 2004 AFCON held in Tunisia.
