SEED Academy Ghana has successfully held its ‘3×3′ basketball competition for players under 16.
The fiercely contested mini-tournament, held at the University of Ghana Basketball Court saw over 20 different basketball teams across the country battle for the ultimate prize.
Charm Basketball Academy, emerged winners in the boys’ category, with Basketball School Academy emerging as the overall winners for the girls’ category.
SEED Academy is the first basketball student-athlete Academy in Africa and uses the sport to develop not only the next generation of basketball talents but also the next generation of African leaders through its mentoring, coaching and support programs for young athletes.
Founder of SEED Academy Ghana, Pops Mensah Bonsu shared that it was necessary for SAG to provide the necessary infrastructure and resources, adding that competitions like these are springboards for growing the next generation of talents and the growth of the basketball sport in Ghana and in Africa.
3×3 Basketball is a fast-paced and entertaining format featuring one hoop, half-court, and two teams of three players. With a 10-minute game duration and no breaks after scoring, the game concludes when a team reaches 21 points.
ABOUT SEED GHANA
The Ghana Division of SEED, (Sports for Education and Economic Development) Academy was launched by Pops Mensah-Bonsu in 2018 and works in partnership with the Ghana Basketball Association to help support and enhance the development of basketball, coaching and infrastructure for the sport in the country as well as mentor, coach, and signpost future basketball talents.
The primary goal of Seed Academy Ghana is to develop the next generation of African leaders through education and basketball while creating a sustainable, scalable basketball culture that will cultivate and inspire the next generation of Ghanaian youth.
