2022-2023 BetPawa League Champions Medeama

Medeama SC Board Chairman, Dr. Tony Aubynn, says the success of teams from the Western Regional Football Association in recent years is down to the tradition of success from the football region that is being revived.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports with the regional association having four teams competing in the premier division after a period that had just Medeama representing the region.

Reigning Betpawa Ghana Premier League champions Medeama is preparing to play the second leg of a second round CAF Champions League matchup against Guinea’s Horoya on Saturday, September 30. Medeama leads the contest 3-1 from the first leg.

Like the Western regional association, teams from the Bono Ahafo association are doing well and Dr. Aubynn highlighted this in his statement.

“You might as well ask what is happening in B/A and the middle belt because (top level) football seems to have moved to that area.”

“Historically, nice football was played in the Western Region with Sekondi 11 Wise and Sekondi Hasaacas in their heyday, they were a team to beat so it’s just the tradition that is being revived and I am happy that we are able to keep that on and I pray that we can maintain that level of performance.”
