The Black Queens of Ghana have dropped in the latest FIFA rankings despite bagging enough wins to secure a spot in the upcoming Women’s AFCON.

Ghana beat Namibia 3-2 on aggregate to qualify to the 2024 AWCON to be held in Morocco; 12 teams will compete in the tournament.

Despite making a return to the showpiece continental event, Ghana dropped two spots in the rankings that were published on December 15 by football’s world governing body, FIFA.

Ghana ranked fourth in Africa and 61st overall with 2023 World Cup participants Nigeria, South Africa and Morocco leading the African standings accordingly.

Mali was the only nation to move up in the rankings among the top 10 ranked African nations in the rankings. The West African nation moved from 82nd to 81st after booking in Morocco next year.

The rankings come at a time news of unpaid bonuses have rocked the Black Queens after the team’s return from the Namibia assignment.

However, according to Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Evans Bobie, the delay is down to the Ministry’s wait on the Ghana Football Association’s report on the team’s qualification.

This is why the Black Queens have not been paid bonuses even after qualifying for 2024 WAFCON
