Former Black Stars captain, Stephen “Tornado” Appiah, will contest the Ayawaso West Wuogon Parliamentary seat later this year.

This is according to Fiifi Tackie, a Public Relations practitioner closely associated to Jordan Ayew and Andre Ayew, who broke the news on his X (formerly Twitter) page.

The football legend will contest what is expected to be a closely fought parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.

Per this announcement, Stephen Appiah is in line to be up against National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) John Dumelo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Lydia Seyram Alhassan in the parliamentary race.

The polls will take place during Ghana’s 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections on December 7 with Alhassan seeking a second term in office.

Appiah becomes the latest former Black Stars player to venture into politics with former striker Asamoah Gyan named to 2024 NPP Presidential Candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s Manifesto Team’s as a Chairman of the Sports Sub-Committee. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
