Ghana forward Inaki Williams says racist actions cannot be tolerated in football in the wake of the latest racist incident to rock the Spanish League.

He said this in an interview with Bilbao media after Athletic Bilbao’s 3-1 loss to Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano in a Spanish League matchup this past weekend.

Inaki’s younger brother, Nico, was racially abused in the first half and forced the game to be halted to address the issue before the match resumed.

Nico scored for Bilbao and pointed to his skin in celebration before getting a hug from Inaki who spoke out strongly against the racist chants.

“It’s not the first time it has happened. In these type of things we have to build together not only in football but a good world in which these type of actions cannot be tolerated. I think this scourge has to end. I think that in the end, people have to understand that it is not easy to put up with this type of insult.”

The Williams brothers are of Ghanaian descent but Nico plays for Spain while Inaki plays for Ghana’s Black Stars and both were key in helping Bilbao win this year’s Copa Del Rey; its first in 40 years.
