Former Black Stars defender Shilla Illiasu has expressed his utmost disappointment about Ghana’s performance in a 2-0 loss to Sudan in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Ghana lost to Sudan in a 2025 qualification game played at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi, Libya to be on the brink of missing out on qualifying to next year’s AFCON in Morocco.
Illiasu said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports with the loss keeping Ghana in third place in Group F with just two points from four games.
After calling for plans to qualify for immediate competitions like the 2025 AFCON and 2026 FIFA World Cup to be ditched for a long term sustainable development plan, Illiasu stated that he was disappointed about Ghana’s performance in the loss. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“If you look at the GFA, the Government, the Ministry of Sports, the sort of support they give to the Black Stars not the (other) national teams, it’s unbelievable…and still we find we find very difficult. Fine, we created chances, we didn’t utilize it (in the goalless draw with Sudan in Accra) fine but what I saw honestly, I was very very disappointed.”
